Bellevue Student Wins Doodle for Google Contest and Scholarship
A sixth-grade student from Bellevue, Rebecca Wu, has won the 2023 Doodle for Google contest. The winning artwork titled “My Sweetest Memories” was selected among “tens of thousands” of submissions from K-12 students across the United States. Google‘s yearly contest featured the theme of gratitude, and Wu’s artwork displays three girls holding mugs in a garden filled with red hearts, yellow and white flowers. The ending of the word “Google” in the piece is represented by flowers. Speaking about her inspiration, Wu said it reminded her of happy moments with her sisters. She added that “We help to inspire each other and to help each other grow like the vines and flowers in my picture.”
The Joy of Winning
As a winner of the contest, Rebecca Wu has received a $30,000 scholarship for college and a $50,000 technology grant for her school. Wu said she felt proud of herself, and it was wonderful to be recognized so well. In a Google blog post, Wu expressed gratitude to her parents, teachers, and friends, and she hopes her artwork brings joy and happiness to many people around the world.
