From the world of everyone’s favorite insufferable genius, Young Sheldon has had some hilarious episodes over the years. These are our favorites.

The worldwide success and popularity of the Chuck Lorre sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, was simply too massive to let the universe of those characters end with the show. Thankfully, it didn’t, as most people’s favorite character from it, Dr. Sheldon Cooper, went on to have a prequel show based on his antics in his younger years. A decidedly different feel to the original show, Young Sheldon strikes a more comedy-drama feel than the pure sitcom hilarity of its predecessor.

However, despite choosing this direction over the same format that made the other one so successful, Sheldon’s spin-off has proven to be just as popular among fans. While it does often feature a dramatic undertone that gives it a more wholesome family show vibe at times, it still blends comedy into the mix perfectly to make it a great all-round show.

With brilliant performances led by its star, Iain Armitage (now 15 years old), as the younger version of Sheldon Cooper, the show has delivered some hilarious episodes, packed with plenty of heart too, over the course of its six seasons so far. Here’s a look at our picks for the funniest episodes of Young Sheldon so far.

1. “An Eagle Feather, A String Bean, and an Eskimo” (Season 1, Episode 10)

In this episode from the first season, Sheldon’s principal arranges for him to be sent to a school for the gifted in Dallas. Hilariously, his teachers and family are all a little relieved to have some time away from his exhausting ways. However, it’s also impossible not to miss him, leading his father to impulsively drive to Dallas and bring him home, much to his twin sister Missy’s delight.

2. “Quirky Egg Heads and Texas Snow Globes” (Season 3, Episode 1)

In the Season 3 premiere, Sheldon’s mother, Mary, begins to worry that her brilliant son might be headed down the same path as his mentor, Dr. Sturgis, who is hospitalized for his psychiatric breakdown. Meanwhile, Sheldon’s older brother, Georgie, tries to get the family to invest in his latest scheme to buy cheap snow globes and resell them at a profit.

3. “A Mother, A Child, and A Blue Man’s Backside” (Season 1, Episode 18)

In this hilarious episode from the latter part of Season 1, Sheldon wants to play a video game that his mother feels he isn’t old enough for yet. After taking away his comic books when he runs his mouth, Sheldon decides to stop living under her thumb and begins to care for himself, only to realize how difficult it is to be an adult. The episode showcases the contrast between Sheldon and his twin sister Missy.

4. “The Wild and Wooly World of Nonlinear Dynamics” (Season 4, Episode 18)

In this episode, set in Season 4, tensions rise in the Cooper family, leading to division and fights. Missy runs away from home, while Sheldon tracks her down and comforts her. Mary’s treatment of George sparks possible infidelity, adding to the emotional turmoil.

5. “Future Worf and the Margerita of the South” (Season 6, Episode 2)

By Season 6, the Cooper family has undergone significant changes, with both parents secretly nursing feelings for other people. Missy gets a job at a comic store and uses her knowledge of comics to impress others. Sheldon pitches Star Trek ideas, including the concept of cryptocurrency, but no one shows interest.

6. “Rockets, Communists, and the Dewey Decimal System” (Season 1, Episode 2)

In this early episode, Sheldon’s mother invites his friend Tam over for dinner in an attempt to help him make friends. However, the family unintentionally acts in a culturally insensitive manner, leading to misunderstandings and trouble, including Sheldon being investigated by the FBI for trying to buy uranium.

7. “A Financial Secret and Fish Sauce” (Season 2, Episode 4)

When Sheldon discovers a financial discrepancy while doing his parents’ taxes, he is forced to keep a secret. His anxiety over secret-keeping leads him to spend the night at Tam’s house. This episode showcases the funniest verbal tussles between George and Sheldon’s grandmother, Meemaw, as family secrets are revealed.

8. “A Clogged Pore, A Little Spanish and the Future” (Season 5, Episode 22)

In the Season 5 finale, the Cooper family faces challenges as George quits his job, Mary starts job hunting, and Georgie becomes a father. Sheldon experiences his first encounters with puberty and emotional distress, but finds comfort in his sister Missy.

9. “Demons, Sunday School, and Prime Numbers” (Season 1, Episode 11)

Mary worries about Sheldon’s interest in “demonic” things when he plays Dungeons & Dragons with Tam. This leads to an exploration of theology, as Sheldon researches different religions and eventually becomes an atheist. He later has a dream that inspires him to start his own religion called “Mathology.”

10. “A Swedish Science Thing and the Equation for Toast” (Season 1, Episode 22)

In the Season 2 finale, tensions arise between Georgie and his father, leading to a war of wills. Sheldon feels friendless on his birthday but is comforted when he realizes he was wrong. The episode ends with a montage of other characters from The Big Bang Theory, providing a delightful connection to the spin-off series.

With Season 7 of Young Sheldon delayed, fans eagerly await to know if it will be the final season. However, even if it is, another spin-off from The Big Bang Theory world is reportedly planned. In the meantime, all seasons of Young Sheldon can be streamed on Max.
