NASCAR Playoffs: Battling for Championship Glory
The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs for the 2023 season have officially been set, with 16 drivers vying for the ultimate prize of the championship trophy. After 26 races, the top drivers have emerged, and they will go head-to-head in 10 intense races to determine who will etch their name in racing history.
The Playoff Format
The playoffs consist of three rounds, with three races in each round. At the conclusion of the third, sixth, and ninth races, four drivers will be eliminated, leaving a final four to battle for the championship. This format ensures that only the most consistent and competitive drivers have a shot at the title.
A Shocking Absence
Perhaps the biggest surprise of this year’s playoffs is the absence of 2020 champion and NASCAR‘s most popular driver, Chase Elliott. Despite his past success, Elliott missed seven races this season and failed to secure a win in the other 19. This goes to show the unpredictable nature of racing and the importance of consistency throughout the season.

Points and Rankings
Before the start of the playoffs, points were reset to 2,000 for each driver. Bonus points were then added based on race and stage wins, as well as finishing in the top 10 of the regular-season standings. The regular-season champion earned a 15-point bonus, while the runner-up received 10 points. The allocation decreased for the subsequent positions, with the 10th-place driver earning one point.
