Nk’Mip Cellars Hosts Gala Fundraiser for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Raising Funds for the Indian Residential School Survivors Society

Nk’Mip Cellars, a renowned winery located near Osoyoos, is preparing to host a groundbreaking gala fundraiser on September 30th to commemorate this year’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The event aims to raise funds for the Indian Residential School Survivors Society, an esteemed organization based in British Columbia. As an indigenous enterprise, Nk’Mip Cellars recognizes the significance of truth and reconciliation and sees this fundraiser as an opportunity to facilitate a respectful and healing dialogue.

A Commitment to Reconciliation

Troy Ravndahl, the estate manager at Nk’Mip Cellars, expressed the winery’s commitment to contributing to reconciliation efforts within the community. As a well-established brand, hosting this fundraising gala aligns with their values and serves as a tangible demonstration of their dedication to the cause. Ravndahl hopes that this gala will become an annual tradition, further solidifying their support for truth and reconciliation.

A Stellar Winery with Notable Accolades

Nk’Mip Cellars, which is 20 years old and owned by the Osoyoos Indian Band in partnership with Arterra Wines Canada, is celebrated for its exceptional vintages. In particular, their 2017 Qwam Qwnt Syrah was recognized as the Canadian Red Wine of the Year in 2019 at the All Canadian Wine Champions. This recognition further solidifies the winery’s reputation and sets the stage for a successful fundraising gala.

Observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

This year, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, established by the federal government in 2021, will be observed as a full statutory holiday across British Columbia at both the federal and provincial levels. In previous years, Nk’Mip Cellars treated the day similar to Remembrance Day, allowing its employees to participate in other events marking the occasion. However, with the designation of this day as a statutory holiday, the winery has seized the opportunity to host this significant fundraising gala.

Tickets and Special VIP Reception

The main fundraising gala will begin at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are available for $100 each on Nk’Mip Cellars’ website, nk’mipcellars.com. Prior to the main event, a special VIP reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. This intimate gathering will feature sparkling wine and oysters, as well as exclusive auction items that will not be available during the main gala’s auctions. Tickets for the VIP reception are priced at $150 each and can also be purchased through the winery’s website. All tickets will only be sold until September 27th.
