Toronto FC Struggles Continue as they are Eliminated from Leagues Cup
Toronto FC’s season continues to worsen as their struggles in the Leagues Cup result in another defeat. With interim coach Terry Dunfield at the helm, the team suffered a 1-0 loss to Mexican side Atlas Fútbol Club, further adding to their woes. While the effort was commendable, it is clear that moral victories will not suffice for the struggling franchise.
Since Dunfield took over from former coach Bob Bradley, Toronto FC has experienced a goal drought, with their last goal coming in a loss to the New England Revolution almost two months ago. In addition, the team has conceded a franchise-record 15 straight goals and has been shut out in seven of their last eight matches. The Reds are winless in their last 11 games, with their only victory in their last 17 outings coming in May.
“Unfortunately, the results and goals for maybe haven’t represented the work that’s gone into it at times. But we’ll continue to keep pushing and finding a way to give a result to an incredible fanbase,” Dunfield promised.
TFC will have a chance to turn their fortunes around when they face CF Montreal in their next MLS game on August 20.
Tactical Breakdown: Assessing Terry Dunfield’s Impact
Analyzing Toronto FC’s performances under interim coach Terry Dunfield provides insight into their gameplay from an analytical perspective. Evaluating their tactical approach can shed light on where improvement is needed and what changes Dunfield must make to turn the team’s fortune around.
New GM Jason Hernandez’s Roster Moves Under Scrutiny
New Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez has been active in the MLS transfer window, making several trades to reshape the team’s roster. With four trades already completed, including the acquisitions of Franco Ibarra and Latif Blessing, Hernandez has sought to make significant changes.
However, as the transfer window approaches its closure, time is running out for further roster moves. Toronto FC has reportedly made an offer for Richie Laryea, and it remains to be seen if a deal can be reached with Nottingham Forest. The clock is ticking, as all MLS clubs will no longer be able to complete transfers or trades within the league after August 2.
Laryea, an integral part of Toronto FC’s success, has been the team’s season MVP with impressive performances throughout the year. Re-signing him has been a top priority for TFC, but negotiations with Nottingham Forest will determine whether he returns this season.
