What’s Open and Closed in Chatham-Kent this Civic Holiday?
Municipal Offices and Services
This Civic Holiday, which falls on Monday, August 7, there will be several closures across Chatham-Kent. Municipal offices and most services will be closed in recognition of the holiday. This includes the Chatham Capitol Theatre, Kiwanis Theatre, Chatham Cultural Centre, Chatham-Kent Museum, Ridge House Museum, Thames Art Gallery, and ARTspace, all of which will be closed on Monday.
However, there are a few exceptions. The Milner House will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing an opportunity for residents and visitors to explore and learn about the history of Chatham-Kent. Additionally, all pools will be open on Monday, offering free recreational swims throughout the summer.
Transportation and Service Ontario
For those relying on public transportation, it’s important to note that all Ride CK Transit services will not operate on Monday. Furthermore, both the Chatham and Dresden Service Ontario locations will be closed.
Residents in need of Employment and Social Services are also advised that their offices will be closed on Monday. However, for homeless emergencies within Chatham-Kent, individuals can call the Homeless Response Line at 519-354-6628.
Emergency Services and Health Care
Despite the closures, Chatham-Kent‘s emergency services will continue to operate 24/7. Police, fire, and ambulance services will be accessible by dialing “911” for emergency calls.
The Fire Administration office will be closed on Monday, August 7, reopening at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8.
While some healthcare services offered at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s Chatham and Wallaceburg sites will be altered for the Civic Holiday, the Emergency Departments at both locations will remain open 24 hours daily. Hemodialysis Care will also be available.
However, it’s important to note that the Chatham-Kent Mental Health and Addictions Program Outpatient Department and the Rapid Access to Addiction Medicine clinic will be closed on Monday. In the event of a crisis, residents can call the crisis line at 1-866-299-7447 for assistance.
Garbage and Recycling Collection
During the week of August 7, garbage and recycling collections will be delayed by one day. Residents are advised to adjust their schedules accordingly.
