Summer Sports Return to the City of Steinbach
Summer in the City is back, and so are Sports in the City, with exciting new additions to the festival line-up. The organizers are preparing for the return of Hockey in the City and the addition of a new adult co-ed beach volleyball tournament.
Hockey in the City
The popular Hockey in the City is returning, hosted by Jamie Roy for the second consecutive year. It is a 3-on-3 ball hockey tournament on the T.G. Smith arena floor, open to kids from the U7 age group up to U15s. Roy has expressed his interest in starting the tournament on Friday evening and aiming to complete one game, so registration can be completed on the Saturday morning, enabling the event to flow through with games and playoffs. The games are typically done by early afternoon so that everyone can go and enjoy the midway on Saturday afternoon.
Steinbach’s MJHL hockey team fans are in for a treat as several current and future Pistons players will be assisting in Hockey in the City this year. The Pistons players will referee the games and interact with the young players, thus adding to the fun. Though the tournament claims to be a Hockey tournament, it is not essential to be a good ice-skater or a hockey player. The tournament is all about having a good time and involves a minimum of four players and a maximum of seven players, including a goalie, in each team. The tournament registration fee is $10 per person, and each player gets a T-shirt to wear as a team jersey. The winning teams have a chance to earn prizes worth winning.
Beach Volleyball in the City
The city’s new outdoor arena at the T.G. Smith Centre now features pristine sand, which will serve as the perfect setting for the Sports in the City’s Beach Volleyball Tournament. The event’s coordinator, Jo-Anne Dalton, is excited to host the first-ever adult co-ed fours volleyball tournament at Sports in the City.
The adult tournament begins on Friday evening, and youth beach volleyball will follow on Saturday. Each team must have four people on the court, and each co-ed team must have at least two females on the team. There will be three divisions for the youth teams: grades 6-8, grades 9-10, and grades 11-12. This is an excellent opportunity for adults and children to enjoy the sport and improve their volleyball skills. The tournament registration fee is nominal, and each player will receive a team T-shirt and a copy of the rules.
Conclusion
Summer sports have returned to the City of Steinbach with an exciting line-up of sports festivals. Participants of the Hockey and Beach Volleyball tournaments can have fun and hone their skills. Though the tournaments include a competition and various prize incentives, participating in the event itself serves as an excellent opportunity for players to meet others with similar interests. People of all ages and skill levels can participate in the tournament, so it’s an extraordinary opportunity to try out a new sport and experience the thrill of competition.
