Final Fantasy 16 Demo: A Comprehensive Review

The Introduction

Final Fantasy 16 is finally here, and to whet our appetite, Square Enix has released a demo for free. The demo, available on PlayStation 5 for download, has a considerable weight, with more content than we expected. The demo includes two parts; one is a story-centric prologue, and the other is a battle-heavy fortress.

The Story-Centric Prologue

The Final Fantasy 16 demo begins with a rapid-fire moment into the story, but it soon moves back in time to set 13 years in the past and introduce the protagonist, Clive. The prologue section, which has a length of approximately two hours, establishes the game’s characters and world. Players get to control Clive, and they also get to interact with his wolf companion, Torgal, when he was still a puppy. In the prologue, there’s a mission that takes players deep into goblin-infested territory, which serves as a tutorial-like environment to help players get used to the controls. The prologue concludes with a tragic ending, leaving players craving to experience further gameplay.

The Battle-Heavy Fortress

The second part of the demo takes place a few hours into the story, set in a more challenging and battle-heavy fortress. The dungeon culminates with an epic clash between Clive and villainess Benedikta, transforming into FF16’s emblematic Eikons. Players control Clive in his Ifrit form as he takes on Benedikta’s Garuda, taking the demo out in style.

Save Data Transfer

The prologue half of the FF16 demo allows transferable save data to the main game, making it convenient not to replay the flashback. However, there is no transferable data in the second half of the demo because it continues several hours after the prologue ends.

Difficulty Modes

Final Fantasy 16 demo features two difficulty modes: Story-Focused and Action-Focused. Accessible in both versions are Timely Accessories that aid players less experienced with fast-paced action games. Story-Focused Mode makes the accessories available by default, enabling players to ease into playing mode. In Action-Focused mode, however, the accessories are unequipped, although players can equip Clive with the accessories through the in-game menu.

Editorial and Advice

The Final Fantasy 16 demo is a fantastic experience, and it has certainly whetted our appetite for more before the game’s official release. It offers players a glimpse into its amazing storyline, its well-crafted and designed world, and its ultra-fast-paced action that makes it a must-play for Final Fantasy lovers. We recommend that you download the demo and experience the breathtaking gameplay it has to offer.
