Dream Girl 2 review: Ayushmann Khurrana’s film is tacky and unoriginal
The much-anticipated sequel, Dream Girl 2, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, has finally hit the screens. Known for his unique and socially relevant films, Khurrana’s latest offering had raised expectations among his fans. Unfortunately, Dream Girl 2 falls short in terms of both creativity and execution.
A Generic Comedy
Ayushmann Khurrana has established himself as an actor who chooses films with powerful messages and thought-provoking themes. His movies often blend social issues with humor, making them relatable and impactful. However, in Dream Girl 2, Khurrana ventures into the territory of generic, formulaic comedies that Bollywood is known for.
The plot of Dream Girl 2 is predictable and lacks depth. It revolves around Karam (Khurrana), a struggling singer, who dresses in drag to earn money. Tacky Execution and Missed Opportunities
Despite having a talented cast and a potentially entertaining premise, Dream Girl 2 fails to deliver on its promises. The writing by Raaj Shaandilyaa and Naresh Kathoria is shabby and uninspired, resulting in jaded jokes and an outdated plot. The film also incorporates offensive elements like body shaming, age shaming, and poor jokes about women’s monthly cycles. These tropes may be common in slapstick comedies, but one would hope for better from an actor like Khurrana.
The supporting cast, including Seema Pahwa, Annu Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Manoj Joshi, and Manjot Singh, are wasted in their roles. While Khurrana manages to deliver a decent performance, the chemistry between him and Ananya Panday, who plays his love interest, feels forced and lacks authenticity. Panday’s character also suffers from limited screen time, making her presence feel disjointed in the overall narrative.

Dream Girl 2 had the potential to be a standout film, given Ayushmann Khurrana’s track record of choosing unique and impactful projects. However, it falls victim to the pitfalls of reliance on outdated comedic formulas and lackluster storytelling.
