Bonne fête du Canada, bon déménagement et bienvenue à East Angus
Celebrating Canada‘s Birthday
On this Saturday, July 1st, 2023, Canadians from coast to coast will come together to celebrate Canada‘s birthday. The 1st of July not only marks the country’s birth, but it is also a time when many Canadians engage in another important activity – moving. We extend a warm welcome to all those who are embarking on new beginnings and settling into their new homes today.
A Time for Reflection and Unity
As we celebrate Canada‘s birthday, it is important to reflect on the values that define our nation – diversity, unity, and progress. Canada is a country built on the principles of inclusivity, where people from various cultural backgrounds come together to create a rich tapestry of traditions, beliefs, and ideas. It is this diversity that makes Canada a vibrant and dynamic nation.
A Call for Change
Canada‘s birthday is also an opportune time to reflect on the challenges that continue to persist. While we celebrate our achievements, we must also recognize the inequalities that exist within our society and work towards creating a more just and equitable Canada for all its citizens. This requires a commitment from each and every one of us to challenge systemic barriers and injustices, and to promote social equality and opportunities for all.
Important Dates to Remember
As we embark on the month of July, here are some important dates to remember for the community of East Angus:
Sunday, July 2nd, 2023
At 10:30 am, a solemn mass will be held at the Saint-Louis-de-France Church to commemorate its centennial anniversary. The church is located at 166, rue Saint-Jean Est.
Monday, July 3rd, 2023
Municipal offices, the municipal court, and the summer animation service (day camp) will be closed on this day.
Tuesday, July 4th, 2023
The collection of bulky items will take place on this day.
Guidelines for Bulky Item Collection
It is important to note some guidelines for the collection of bulky items:
- Items should be placed for collection the day before the scheduled pickup.
- Certain items, such as construction materials, hazardous products, tires, rocks, and vehicle parts, will not be collected by Sani-Estrie. However, there are alternative disposal options available:
- Construction or demolition materials: These can be disposed of at the municipal garage located at 16, rue David-Swan in an area designated for such materials.
- Tires: Most garages that sell tires accept used tires without rims.
- Rocks, stones, cement blocks, etc.: These materials can be disposed of free of charge at the regional Eco-Center located at 105, chemin du Maine Central in Bury.
- Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners: These items will only be collected if the refrigerant gas (freon) has been removed by an authorized contractor.
- Vehicle parts: Examples include bumpers, seats, engines, and body parts. Please note that a trailer located on the side of the road will not be emptied.
- If you have a large quantity of bulky items to dispose of, we recommend renting a waste container or directly visiting the landfill site.
Editorial: Embracing Change and Building Stronger Communities
As we celebrate Canada‘s birthday and mark this important milestone, let us remember that our strength lies in our ability to adapt, embrace change, and work together as a community. Just as individuals are settling into new homes in East Angus, we must also embrace the idea of constant growth and progress as a nation.
Promoting Unity and Inclusivity
Canada, with its vast geographic and cultural diversity, has a unique opportunity to lead by example when it comes to fostering unity and inclusivity. We must continue to create spaces where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute to the betterment of our society. This means confronting and dismantling barriers that prevent certain groups from fully participating in all aspects of Canadian life.
Ensuring a Just and Equitable Society
While Canada has made significant strides in advancing equality, there is still work to be done. We cannot ignore the systemic barriers that disproportionately affect marginalized communities. It is crucial that we actively seek to understand and address these issues, working towards a society that provides equal opportunities and rights for all its citizens.
Embracing Sustainability
Lastly, as we look towards the future, we must prioritize sustainability in all aspects of our lives. Sustainable practices ensure the preservation of our environment for future generations. This includes responsible waste management, reducing our carbon footprint, and supporting initiatives that promote clean energy.
Advice for Canadians
As we celebrate Canada‘s birthday and embark on a new chapter, it is important to remember that change starts with each and every one of us. Here are some ways you can contribute to building a stronger and more inclusive Canada:
- Get involved in your community: Participate in local initiatives, volunteer your time, and engage with community organizations working towards positive change.
- Educate yourself and others: Take the time to learn about different cultures, histories, and perspectives. Embrace diversity and challenge stereotypes.
- Advocate for equality: Speak out against injustices and advocate for policies and practices that promote equality and inclusion.
- Support sustainable practices: Reduce waste, recycle, and support businesses and organizations that prioritize sustainability.
- Vote: Exercise your democratic right and vote for leaders who champion inclusivity, sustainability, and social equity.
Together, we can shape a Canada that truly embodies the values of diversity, equality, and progress. Happy Canada Day!
