Blue Jays to Continue Winning Streak against Twins

The Toronto Blue Jays will welcome the Minnesota Twins to the Rogers Centre for a three-game weekend series as the home team looks to extend their winning run. Ahead of the game, a pregame narrative emerged as Toronto has won seven of its past eight games and will start Yusei Kikuchi opposite Sonny Gray, whose 2.15 ERA ranks third in baseball. Despite this, it appears that the Blue Jays remain the favourite to win, and we’re here to explain why.

Toronto’s Recent Form

If the recent form of the two teams is anything to go by, Toronto seems like an easy pick. The Blue Jays recently took three out of four from the reigning champions Houston Astros after sweeping baseball’s highest-payroll team, the New York Mets, in the Big Apple. In contrast, the Twins have lost five straight games. Although Minnesota’s record of 31-32 is good enough to lead an awful AL Central, it doesn’t bode well for their prospects against the Blue Jays.

Sonny Gray’s Stats

Although Gray’s 2.15 ERA is impressive, it doesn’t tell the whole story. Gray had a spectacular April, allowing just three earned runs (ER) in 35.0 innings pitched (IP), giving him an ERA of 0.77. However, he has regressed since May 1 and holds an ERA of 3.66 in six starts since then. His opponents have hit a combined .264 in that same span. According to Baseball Savant, Gray’s season-long expected ERA of 3.69 is over 1.5 points higher than his actual one. Though that isn’t necessarily bad, it’s nothing out of the ordinary.

The Blue Jays Pick

The best bet here is the Blue Jays moneyline (-134) as Toronto’s recent form has been nothing short of impressive, and they will have Yusei Kikuchi on the mound. While Kikuchi is far from being an ace, he should be able to contain Minnesota’s batting line-up. The Twins have the third-worst batting average (.224) and the fifth-worst slugging percentage (.378) against left-handed pitching in baseball. Moreover, Toronto has won each of Kikuchi’s past two starts.

Key Stats

Minnesota has lost five of Gray’s past six starts, while quick pick under 8.5 runs (-106) is a good bet as Toronto’s opponent has scored no more than two runs in each of their past six games, and in three of Toronto’s past eight games, the under has hit.

Editorial

For sports enthusiasts and professionals alike, betting has become increasingly popular. With the ongoing pandemic, internet usage, which includes online sports betting, has risen significantly. However, concerns have also arisen in tandem with these developments, particularly related to addiction and financial losses. In this context, responsible betting should be practiced by all, with more significant emphasis being placed on the well-being of customers.

Advice

It’s crucial to maintain a balance between betting and other aspects of life. Be aware of the odds and the potential outcomes before placing a bet. Set realistic financial limits on the amount of money you are willing and able to wager, and don’t go beyond it. Seek help and support in case of addiction or emotional crisis resulting from betting and prioritize your mental and emotional well-being.
